MY ROLE

UI/UX Designer

The Problem

Bethel Korean Presbyterian Church's CWM (Center for World Missions) is a nonprofit organization that supports missionaries around the world through community involvement. The website was unfortunately outdated,  suffering from obsolete content, poor information architecture, and dull UI design.

The Solution

To enhance navigation, organization of content, and visual design, the Church's English Ministry (EM) leadership formed a team to redesign the website. This team focused on improving the site’s information architecture, page layout, content, and imagery.

My Role

Collaborated with another product designer during the early ideation stage to completion of the entire project.

Organized content provided by clients to construct the website information architecture and created low-fidelity wireframes. Contributed to the UI development by defining the color palette, designing icons, and creating other visual elements to unify the website with a consistent theme.

1. Research

Over the years, people had added new pages to the navigation without considering the organization of information. This ultimately led to tunneling and decentralized important information for any users who visited the website.

Reorganized the navigation, by conducting a card sorting exercise. Used index cards to document the website's existing pages, as well as new content the client wanted to include. Categorized the cards into groups and labeled them to consolidate the results. Ultimately, the team simplified the navigation into three main categories of information:

  1. About

  2. Ministries

  3. Resources

Each of these categories contained sub-pages that efficiently grouped information based on the insights gained from the exercise. Refined the navigation, renamed pages, and removed information that research indicated to be irrelevant and/or repetitive.

2. Low-Fidelity Wireframes

3. User Feedback and Iterations

Present the website to the organization's members to seek feedback on its visual design, organization, and overall user experience. Refined the website with the feedback received and prioritized what adjustments were realistic for launch and what features could be considered for future development.
